The Compensation of victims of sexual violence is and must be a primary responsibility of the Congolese government to enable to learn from this tragedy, acknowledge its own failures to the victims and investigate and prosecute the responsibles to help prevent similar crimes in future.
While no amount of money can erase the trauma and inconceivable grief suffered by victims and their families, this compensation is crucial in the recovery process. The governement of Congo must assume its responsibility in helping the help victims regain their lives and their financial stability. It's time for the Congolese government to stop talking without taking actions, stop making excuses, stop pretending that it can turn the pages without holding accountable and helping victims rebuild their lives
