| Sacramento, California. JAN. The site of the rebel commander who is wanted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague for war crimes is www.arrestNTAGANDAnow.org, announced Makuba SEKOMBO, Director of Community Affairs for the Mobilization for Justice and Peace in Congo (MJPC). In addition to exposing the sad truth of his war crimes and the arrest warrants of the ICC, the site is also designed to encourage citizens around the world to sign an online petition calling for UN force Congo (MONUC) to help arrest this war criminal who is deemed to have inflicted unbearable suffering to civilians in eastern Congo, including children and women. The petition may be signed at http://www.gopetition.com.au/online/24459.html "We call upon the Congolese officials and in particular the UN force in Congo (MONUC) to take prompt action to enforce the arrest warrant of the International Criminal Court (ICC) against NTAGANDA accused of recruiting children under 15 and using them to participate actively in hostilities and other unspeakable cruelty, "said Mr. SEKOMBO. According to Human Rights Watch, troops under the command of Ntaganda killed civilians ethnic Lendu and Ngiti in the village of Songolo in 2002 and attacked the gold mining town of Mongbwalu where 800 civilians died. Ntaganda is also accused of having an authority exercised de jure and de facto in the training camps of child soldiers Bule, Central, Mandro, Rwampara, Irumu, Bogoro and Sota. In April 2005, the DRC authorities have issued an arrest warrant against Ntaganda, who is accused of having committed crimes of torture, murder, illegal detention and arbitrary arrests. Ntaganda was also involved in incidents involving members of the peacekeeping in 2004, including the kidnapping of a Moroccan as well as the murder of a Kenyan. He was also involved in the murder of two aid workers MJPC requests the United Nations in Congo (MONUC) to stop encouraging the current system of rewarding war criminals by giving them government posts high level because it is encouraging others to commit crimes, particularly in eastern Congo.
MJPC firmly maintains that the international laws which require that persons responsible for war crimes and crimes against humanity be held accountable for their crimes must not be adjusted in the Congo. For this reason, any attempt to grant an unconditional amnesty to NTAGANDA or NKUNDA is unacceptable and must be avoided, even under the AMANI peace deal. |
